E-Communications for Paddle America Clubs of the American Canoe Association

2007 General Liability Insurance Coverage for Paddle America Clubs Now Available

ACA is pleased to announce the 2007 Insurance program for Paddle America Clubs and Sanctioned Events.  The 2007 program is patterned after the 2006 program with similar coverage and benefits including a $5 million dollar coverage limit.  Certificates for club sponsored events are now being issued.  Forms are available at this link. Additional program details will be posted shortly. There are NO increase in program costs for Paddle America Clubs in 2007 for this coverage.  Here is a link to the 2007 PAC Agreement. We are finalizing a number of program enhancements to be implemented in early spring.  Questions can be emailed to insurance@americancanoe.org.

ACA Announces New Recreation Outreach Director

Nancy Lear joined ACA national office staff on January 2 as Recreation Outreach Director.  Among Nancy's priorities will be bolstering effective communication between and among PACs and ACA staff and focusing on ways to provide more support to PACs.

She comes to us from Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) where she was the Administrative Specialist for nearly 10 years at the Bailey's Crossroads, Virginia store.  As such, she was responsible for member and employee support, recordkeeping, and operations staff training and support. In 2004, Nancy was voted by her co-workers to receive the Anderson Award which is given annually to the employee who best exemplifies the spirit of REI.  REI also provided Nancy the opportunity to rekindle her enthusiasm for canoeing and kayaking.  She and her husband regularly paddle on the Potomac and take their vacations in prime paddling spots including Hilton Head Island, Alaska, and Maine. 

Prior to REI, Nancy had a varied career at the American Red Cross.  Her last position was as Manager of a Health & Safety Program & Customer Support Unit at the national headquarters.  As such, she and her staff provided technical and financial assistance to nearly 2000 chapters across the country.  Nancy also served at the chapter, operational and national level as an instructor, IT, safety specialist, educational program developer, and project leader. 

In addition to PAC support, Nancy will work closely with ACA's corporate partners, including Subaru of America. Nancy looks forward to meeting and hearing from Paddle America Clubs and ACA members.  Her e-mail address is nlear@americancanoe.org.
