2007 Course Registration & Reporting

Through a bit of diligence and detailed analysis of course registration and reporting, updated Skills and Certification course forms have been created. These new forms will allow instructors, instructor trainers and instructor trainer educators two options of completing the forms:

  1. Complete them as has been done in the past: download a PDF file and complete the forms by hand, submitting them via mail or fax.
  2. Download the forms in Microsoft Excel format, complete them on your computer (save a copy) and e-mail a copy to the SEI department.

The use of technology will hopefully make registration & reporting a bit easier for everyone involved and will allow everyone to have an electronic copy of what has been registered and reported; eliminating reams of paper in file drawers and offices across the country.

An additional bonus to course reporting is regarding Instructor Certification courses. You will notice that on the Cert Course Report form, there are Temporary Instructor Certification Cards. These cards will complete themselves when the IT fills in the cert course report (in excel format). If you utilize the PDF files, you will be able to print copies to distribute at the end of your certification exams. Please note: the temporary cards are valid for 60 days. This allows for the IT/ITEs 30 day window for reporting, a week for mailing and a week to generate the official certification cards.

These forms are available for download from the ACA website (http://www.americancanoe.org/mlinks/online.lasso).

ACA Course Participation - 250,000 in '07?

It is the ACA's goal to document 250,000 participants in ACA programs in 2007, but we need your help. Please use the new course report forms and report as many of the ACA courses you instruct as possible.

At this time there are approximately 3,500 active instructors, instructor trainers & instructor trainer educators. If each instructor/IT/ITE independently reaches the 100 participant plateau, which would mean as a whole, the ACA would document a total of 350,000 instruction participants!

Trip Leading Assessments

As per discussion and policy review at the fall SEIC & BOD meetings, the individuals now approved for facilitation of the Coastal Kayak and River Canoe Trip Leading Assessments include the following instructors:

  • Coastal Kayak Day-trip Leading Skills Assessment: Basic Coastal Kayak ITs and above / Open Water Instructors and above
  • River Canoe Trip Leading Skills Assessment: Basic River Canoe ITs and above / Whitewater Canoe Instructors and above

When Registering and reporting Trip Leading Assessments, please use the 2007 Certification Registration & Report Forms as the Assessments are not skills courses.

If facilitating the CK Day-Trip Leading Skills Assessment, you will need to request and obtain a copy of the written exam from the National Office.

2007 General Liability Insurance Coverage for Instructors Now Available!

ACA is pleased to announce the 2007 Insurance program for ACA Certification and Skills courses.  The 2007 program is patterned after the 2006 program with similar coverage and benefits including a $5 million dollar coverage limit.  Certificates for courses are now being issued.  Complete program details will be posted shortly. There are NO increase in program costs for instructors and trainers in 2007 for this coverage.

The 2007 Insurance Coverage Request form is now available for download on the website: http://www.americancanoe.org/pdf/certrequest.instructor.pdf
