Hello! Thanks for your interest in an Level 1: Introduction to Kayaking Instructor Certification Workshop! This course is being offered by the City of Rock Hill Active Learning & Living (A.L.L.) Outdoors Program. Below you'll find some information about what to expect in this course and a brief bio of the lead Instructor Trainer - Charles "C.C." Williams. This is an Instructor Certification Workshop - there will be continual development of skills, both paddling and teaching skills, as well as continual assessment of those skills. There is not time for you to learn of the skills included in the Instructor Criteria and learn how to teach and provide effective feedback to students for all of these skills. Instructor Candidates are expected to come into the course with an ability to perform all of the paddling and rescue skills listed on the Instructor Criteria. This is a professional level certification course that requires a minimum level of competency. Passing the course is not guaranteed but I’ll do everything in my power as an ACA Instructor Trainer to help you to become an ACA Instructor. I evaluate all of my instructor candidates based on the “letter and the spirit” of the ACA Instructor Criteria. If you receive an instructor certification from you’ll have earned it. I have been a paddler since 2003 and an American Canoe Instructor (ACA) since 2005. I am currently certified by the ACA as a Level 2: Essentials of River Kayaking Instructor Trainer, Level 3: River Safety & Rescue Instructor Trainer, Level 4: Whitewater Kayaking Instructor, and Level 4: Swiftwater Rescue Instructor. I also serve as the Secretary for the ACA Safety, Education, and Instruction Council (SEIC) and am a voting member of the ACA Safety & Rescue Discipline Committee. In 2011 I joined the Active Learning & Living (A.L.L.) Outdoors team here at the City of Rock Hill as a program coordinator. I am passionate about teaching and learning through the outdoors. My goals for this course, as in all my courses, are to be safe, have fun, and learn as much as possible. I will do my very best in this course to meet you where you are as a paddler and help you to move a little closer to being the paddler and instructor you want to be! If you would like more information or if you would like to register for this course please feel free to contact me via email or phone. Hope to see you soon! C.C. Williams
