The first annual Paddle Around Presque Isle Kayak Endurance Race, organized by Paddle Without Pollution (PWP), will be held on July 21, 2012. The event is a 6- to 8-hour, 20-mile kayak race that starts at Beach 10 in Presque Isle State Park, Erie, goes around the east end of the peninsula and west into Presque Isle Bay, circumnavigating the entire bay before ending back at the finish line at Beach 10. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place finishes. An awards ceremony and celebration with food and drinks will be held at the East Pier pavillion in the park after the race. The race will be cancelled only in the event of severe weather or hazardous water conditions.

The race is open to amateur kayakers only, and military veterans are strongly encouraged to compete. Participants will collect pledges and proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization that provides programs and services to severely injured service members during the time between active duty and transition to civilian life.
