Description: Introduce yourself or someone you know to the excitement of whitewater paddling in this two day beginner / novice class. The class begins with safety topics and gear discussions and moves swiftly on to fun flatwater strokes and games. Day two advances to Class I-II whitewater where students learn and hone skills for enjoyable river kayak paddling. Just a few of the topics covered include wet exits, safety, rescue, equipment and fundamental paddling skills such as strokes, braces, eddy turns, peelouts, and ferries. The full curriculum for this course can be found here. The course will be taught be two ACA River Kayak instructors (L4/L5) and the student to instructor ratio will be no greater than 4:1 (maximum of 8 students). Location: Huguenot Flatwater and Upper James (Richmond, VA) Format: Two fun filled days on the James River in Richmond, VA. When: Saturday & Sunday – June 1 & 2, 2012 – 9AM-5PM Requirements: * You must be comfortable with the idea of paddling a kayak. * You must be able to swim. * Minors 12 and under must be accompanied by a participating adult guardian. * A kayak with hip pads and thigh braces (preferably a full whitewater boat) with flotation bags, paddle, helmet, PFD, and skirt ----->(Loaner gear may be available – contact Instructor ASAP) * Shoes with enclosed toe & heel, food, water, sunscreen and whatever else you need for two full days on the river * An interest in having a whole lot of FUN!
