Underlying excellent sea kayaking instructors are their qualities as great teachers. Without skills for delivering information both on and off the water in effective, appropriate and engaging ways, your attempts to teach will be undermined. This can lead to not only boring class sessions (!) and confusing on-water sessions, but ultimately compromised safety for your students. Our goals at the workshop are to ‘load your dry bags’ with teaching tools and skills to help you: - recognize and utilize the individual characteristics you bring to teaching - both extroverts and introverts excel as teachers if they learn to manage their strengths and weaknesses. - increase your breadth of knowledge in all aspects of coastal sea kayaking through presentations given by staff and fellow participants. - become excellent ‘modelers’ of on-water skills – beginners need to see strokes and rescues demonstrated at appropriate levels. - advance your personal paddling skills through video taping, critique and practice. - spark your continued passion for sea kayaking as instructors, guides and adventurers. - prepare you for successful outcomes at the Instructor Certification Exam (ICE).
