OLER 171-001 Flat and Whitewater Canoeing 2 Credit Instructor: Limit 10 Start Date: 7/30 Lab Fee $120 End Date: 8/3 Location: Animas & San Juan Rivers, Navajo Lake ACA Canoe Course focuses on helping the student learn to travel safely and efficiently by canoe. Emphasis on stroke and paddle mechanics, maneuvering including corrected forward strokes, cross strokes as well as paddling on flat water will encompass the first 2 days of the course The second 3 days will focus is on learning about river features and hazards, how to handle capsizes on the river, more advanced rescues, how to do eddy turns, surfs and ferries, how to scout, keys to good judgment, clothing and much more. Course meets in classroom on July 30 at 9:00am. Field sessions start in the afternoon on July 30-Augauat 3.
