Join the Georgia Conservancy for a weekend adventure (November 14 - 16) to one of the most beautiful places in Georgia: the Suwannee River in the Okefenokee Swamp. Guests will have the opportunity to paddle the mysterious tea-colored water of the Okefenokee with esteemed naturalist Cathy Sakas. We’ll spend the weekend on the west side of the Okefenokee in the Stephen C. Foster State Park and venture out during the day to learn about the natural wonders and fascinating cultural history found in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. The Okefenokee contains many types of habitat – islands, lakes, cypress forests, scrub-shrub areas and open ‘wet’ prairies. In November, migrating sandhill cranes should be arriving and the occasional bald eagle will be heading south to Florida for the winter. Cypress needles will be turning a golden brown and sweetgum should be glowing red before floating to the ground. As we canoe through the Okefenokee, keep a lookout for alligators, deer, white ibis, herons, egrets and maybe even a black bear. Activities include: A Saturday paddle on Minnie’s Lake Run and a hike and tour of historic Billy's Island A shorter Sunday paddle, returning to Stephen C. Foster State Park by noon Family-friendly activities designed for parents and children Live music And much more! Guests have the opportunity to stay in either a cabin or a tent or RV. This price includes a canoe/kayak (with paddle and personal flotation device), two evening meals and two guided tours through the Okefenokee. Check-in will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Stephen C. Foster State Park. All guests must arrive by 10:00 p.m. Guests staying in the cabins are asked to share a kitchen area with one or two tent campers. The staff cabin will be the primary facility for tent campers. Each cabin has two bedrooms, half of the cabins have private bathrooms. Cabins with private bathrooms will be assigned on a first-to-register basis. If you would like to stay in a cabin with friends, let us know and we can accommodate your request! We will not provide breakfasts or lunch – please bring your own food for these meals. We will have group coolers and a full kitchen available for us. Costs Cabins lodging: $225 per person (double occupancy – we will pair same gender roommates) $350 per person (single occupancy) $525 per family of four (sharing cabin room) Tent camping (includes free tent, sleeping bag and sleeping pad rental): $125 per person $200 per couple $300 per family of four
