Canoe, Kayak, and Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) paddlers are invited to race in the Cahaba Classic, down the beautiful Cahaba River over a nine mile, three mile, or ½ mile route near the Old Cahawba Archaeological Park. The Cahaba Classic is a fundraiser for both the Old Cahawba Archeaology Park and the Cahaba River Society.

The Classic will loosely follow USCA racing rules, as interpreted by the Chief Judge. Participants must wear a US Coast Guard approved Life Jacket during on-water activities. A minimum of three craft are required to “make” a class, entries in classes that do not meet that minimum will be moved into the next fastest class as appropriate. Certificates with class, craft, and finishing order will be awarded. Commemorative “T” shirts are only guaranteed to all who register before noon on 10/22. The nine miler will start at noon, the three miler is expected to start at 1:00 pm, and the ½ miler will be run in elimination “heats” starting at 2:00 pm. Mandatory competitor’s meetings will be held prior to each race. A limited number of tandem canoes, equipped with Life Jackets and paddles, are available for rent ($20 per person) for use during the race. Special “group” rental rates are available for the ½ mile race.
