Prime Paddlesports is excited to kick of the 2015 season with a Swiftwater Training Class led by Mike Mather, of Mather Rescue. With over 20 years of on the water in the US and Europe, Mike is one of the more experienced and most entertaining rescue professionals in the business. He has an unconventional approach to rescue topics and excels at keeping topics clear and accessible for course participants. We will use the American Canoe Association’s Level 4 Swiftwater Syllabus as a guide for the course which will be presented as 50% on-water and 50% in the classroom. This program is appropriate for rescue professionals, experienced and novice, kayakers, rafters, canoeist or anyone else looking to learn sound fundamentals of the dynamic river environment. This class is not a boating skills class, and you do not need boats. Students are to arrive in the evening on Friday, April 17th and the course concludes in the afternoon on Sunday, April 19th. We can accommodate up to 15 students in this course. WHERE: The Hunter Mountain House of Lanesville, in Phonecia, NY has been secured for the program. The house offers plenty of common space which will be used for classroom work, indoor scenarios, sorting gear, meals and socializing. Sleeping accommodations will be shared rooms and cots will be used where needed for overflow. Our on-water time will be spent on the Esopus River; we aim to have our working area within a fifteen minute drive of the house. In the evenings there will be opportunities to socialize and casually discuss topics with course participants and instructors. COST: The cost of the Course is $410 and includes two days of instruction, lodging on Friday and Saturday nights and all meals from Friday’s dinner through Sunday’s lunch. Day Students can be accommodated at $310 for instruction only. A deposit of $200 is required to hold your place in the class. Full Prepayment will be due by Friday April 3, 2015. If interested in reserving a place please contact Prime Paddlesports and we will forward registration & medical forms, payment instructions and required gear list.
