The purpose of our project is to develop a set of National Standards for Recreational Boating Operation that helps raise the overall level of safety and enjoyment boaters experience on a nation’s waterways. We aim to do this by coming to consensus on the skills beginner-level boat operators should be able to demonstrate that will help keep them safe on the water; and then make that information freely available to course designers and instructors around the country for use in developing courses. This year, we are testing the beginner-level skills for HUMAN-propelled crafts (SUPs, kayaks, rowboats) identify by experts around the country. We are looking for volunteers at both entry-levels and instructor levels to operate and evaluate our standards. In volunteering, you will have the chance to shape recreational boating safety standards.
