The Hobuck Hoedown Paddle Surf Festival is an international paddle surfing event for paddle powered surf craft including Surf Kayaks, Waveskis, Stand Up Paddle boards (SUPs), Sea Kayaks and White Water Kayaks. It is the first in a series of five annual U.S. West Coast events of the Pacific Paddle Surf Series. This event is open to contestants for both competitive and non-competitive (depending on class entered) surf paddling competition. A distance race will also be held for Sea Kayaks and SUPs. In competitive classes, points are awarded for the U.S. West Surf Kayak Team selection that can lead to selection for the U.S. National Surf Kayak Team. Most importantly, this event is designed to promote camaraderie, skills development and fellowship within the Pacific Northwest paddling community. The Hoedown provides additional benefit to youth groups of the Makah Nation, on whose lands the contest is held, via the donation of all contest profits to tribal youth. To further give back to the community of Neah Bay, on the day prior to the contest, a series of free clinics taught by ACA certified instructors will be offered to tribal youth and families to expose them to surf kayaking and to acknowledge the Makah's ocean based heritage.
