Course Information- Level 4 Whitewater Kayak Instructor Certification Workshop: This is an Instructor Development Workshop and an Instructor Certification Exam (IDW/ICE) for aspiring River Kayak Instructors. ACA courses are structured for several levels of certification depending on the candidates teaching and paddling abilities. Examples of certification include; Level 2 Essentials of River Paddling, Level 3 River Kayaking, and L4 Whitewater. This course is targeted at any instructor candidate whose goal is to teach on moving rivers up to class III whitewater. Not everyone will earn the whitewater instructor certification and certification level is based on several factors including teaching and paddling proficiency. Candidates new to formal paddling instruction will learn a great deal about personal paddling abilities and instruction in an institutional setting.

Instructor Updates: Currently certified instructors are welcome to complete the ACA required Instructor Update during this course as space allows. Updates may join 2 days of the course; which 2 days will be determined by the Instructor Trainer (IT) and is depend on update level requirements. ACA Instructor Updates are required every 4 years.

Logistics: Course Locations will be based on flows, weather, and group goals and will be discussed on the first day of the course.

Prerequisite Skills: Class II-III paddling skills are required along with a solid river roll if working towards a level III or IV certification. You must have your own gear for the duration of the course in good working condition. River running and creek boats work best for this course although there will be opportunities to work on aspects of play boating as well. It is critical that Instructor Candidates do an exceptional job at taking care of personal gear, energy and hydration, ext. needs at all times during the course
