This two-day course teaches river users recognition and avoidance of common river hazards, execution of self-rescue techniques, and rescue techniques for paddlers in distress. Techniques for dealing with hazards that carry greater risks for both victim and rescuer, such as strainers, entrapments, and pins, are also practiced. Scenarios will provide an opportunity for participants to practice their skills both individually and within a team/group context.

The course’s all women-participant environment allows and encourages full participation and practice from everyone in a non-intimidating environment. Days will begin with a serene 1-hour outdoor yoga class to center in and laugh. Practice will be plentiful and FUN! With a mix of classroom instruction, hands-on practice, and exciting rescue scenarios, the course is tailored to provide useful and confidence-inspiring information and experience to river women who recreate, work, or simply enjoy time on the river.
