An action packed introduction to kayaking. This course is a combination ACA Levels 1 & 2. By using two ACA instructors, it will address the needs of both novice and intermediate paddlers.

Level 1 - Learn on-land boat handling and safe transportation on your car, getting the kayak from the car to the water, and how to safely and (hopefully gracefully) get in and out of your craft. Make your boat pivot in place, move sideways, forward, back, turn and stop.

We will also introduce a variety of stability strokes/maneuvers to avoid capsize. We will spend considerable time discussing safety concerns and teaching you how to rescue yourself, your fellow paddlers and how to assist someone who can no longer paddle due to fatigue or injury. You will get wet & enjoy it!

Level 2 - In addition to a review of the skills covered in the Level 1 program, level 2 participants will concentrate on strokes like ruddering, sculling draws, wind correction techniques, pivots, and the low & high brace to prevent capsize. We will have the opportunity to explore some gentle currents. In the safety and rescue portion of the day, we will practice self-rescues using a paddle float or a scramble, assist other capsized paddlers using a variety of techniques to safely get them back into their boats, and practice techniques to get a swimmer safely to shore.
