Enhance your current courses and expand your available course offerings to your students!
There are lots of potential course variations for you and your students when you combine the skills and techniques from Level 2: Essentials of River Safety & Rescue or Level 3: River Safety & Rescue to the content you can already teach as an ACA certified instructor!
Basic safety & rescue skills are essential for all river paddlers regardless of their chosen craft, but making these courses enticing and accessible to beginner paddlers can be challenging. Like an other paddling discipline, introductory river safety & rescue courses and the students in them present unique challenges to instructors. This two-day ICE is your opportunity to hone your own river safety & rescue skills while learning new learning some new teaching techniques to address the specific needs students in these introductory courses.
This course is open to any ACA instructor currently certified at any of these levels and disciplines: Level 2-5 - River Kayaking, Level 3-4 - River SUP, Level 2-5 - River Canoeing, Level 2-3 - Prone River Paddling, or Level 2-4 - Rafting.
The lead IT for this course will be C.C. Williams. A paddler and ACA instructor since 2005, he has spent the past five years specializing in working with Level 2 & Level 3 students and instructors in both River Kayaking and River Safety & Rescue.
C.C. is currently an Active Learning & Living (A.L.L.) Outdoors coordinator for the City of Rock Hill Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department, serves as the ACA Dixie Division Instruction Facilitator, is the Catawba & Appalachian Regional Director for the ACA S.C. Executive Committee, and is a member of the ACA Safety & Rescue Discipline Committee. He is currently certified as an ACA Level 4: Swiftwater Rescue Instructor, Level 4: Whitewater Kayaking Instructor, Level 3: River Safety & Rescue Instructor Trainer, and Level 2: Essentials of River Kayaking Instructor Trainer.
