NEWP proudly announces a joint training event with the USCG on Aug 21st, at 2 PM. This will be a mock on-water rescue of kayakers with simulated injuries. The search and rescue team from the Two Rivers station will extract the ‘victim’ from the water and transport back to the station.

This training will be invaluable for both parties involved:

For the Coast Guard, this exercise will provide a vital hands-on experience, test their state of readiness, improve understanding of issues related to paddlers in distress, and perhaps provide initial exposure for auxiliary members in rescuing kayakers.
For NEWP, this exercise provides both a teaching and learning experience for paddlers to better understand what happens in an on-water rescue exercise and how to be best prepared for it.
The exercise will be recorded for use as a lesson to educate other paddlers, and will be published as a public safety announcement to increase public awareness. Local media will be invited to record the exercise and enlighten the community of proper safety equipment while boating, and to shine a spotlight on the Coast Guard’s vital role in our society.

Spectators may observe the demonstration from the shores of Neshotah Beach, located at 1717 East Park Street, Two Rivers, WI
