National On-Water Standards (NOWS) Program Launches National Survey
Portsmouth, RI (February 9, 2017) — The National On-Water Standards (NOWS) Program Team of Subject Matter Experts seeks national validation of the entry level, skills-based instructional approach standard under development. This is your opportunity to have a voice in the development of an American National Standard that identifies best practices education providers can follow when designing courses and instructional programs. Complete the survey and be part of setting a new standard.
Following the survey, the instructional approach standard best practices will be updated and then validated in the field (on the water) to ensure best practice on paper matches best practice in the field.
WHEN:The survey will close on Wednesday, February 15, 2017.
WHO: Individuals involved in the recreational boating education community and especially those with experience in On-Water or experientially based instruction or training are urged to participate in this on-line survey.
WHY: Your participation is essential to building a national set of standards that reflects input from all recreational boaters. This effort is part of the US Coast Guard’s implementation of a National System of Standards for Recreational Boat Operation that is organizing both in-classroom and On-Water standards within a comprehensive system of recreational boating education. The US Coast Guard encourages all education providers to incorporate these standards within their recreational boating education programs as they help to raise the overall level of safety and enjoyment boaters experience on our nations’ waterways.
