|Paddle Safe - Paddle Smart (PS2) Curriculum|
PS2 is a national research based educational curriculum designed to introduce elementary, middle and high school age youth to the joys and skills of paddling a canoe and/or kayak. The curriculum emphasizes safety and skills and is designed for teachers and youth leaders who want to include paddlesport instruction in their programs. There is a both a classroom component as well as an on-water module. They can be taught as separate stand-alone units, or combined.
This curriculum was a joint venture of the ACA and the American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation (AAPAR). It was produced under a grant from the Aquatic Resources (Wallop-Breaux) Trust Fund administered by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Hope you are well. Just finished up 25 students on a kaying trip on the Mattawoman Creek in Indian Head Maryland. Last year I took 18 so we are slowing growing. We did have one student roll the kayak and we emptied the kayaking, flip it upright, and got him back in right in the middle of the creek!! Just like you taught us... Just wanted to say thanks again. Without you, we wouldn't have been able to have a program. The plan for next year is to do more students and have a fishing tournament after the trip on the local pier.
If you would like additional information about hosting a PS2 Workshop at your school or facility, please contact the Safety Education & Instruction Department.
