ACA Urges Members to Write Senators to Oppose H.R. 3905 and Save the Boundary Waters! - 2018

H.R. 3905, which narrowly passed out of the House of Representatives in November, by a vote of 216-204 remains under review in the Senate Committee for Energy and Natural Resources. In the meantime, the ACA urges members to write their senators and voice their opposition to a bill that will expose one of the crown jewels of America's paddling resources, the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness, to toxic pollution from sulfide-ore copper mining. The ACA's public policy chief recently visited key congressional offices on Capitol Hill to make the ACA's position on H.R. 3905 known, to thank H.R. offices for casting a no vote, and to urge Senators to cast a no vote should the bill come to the floor. ACA Opposes MINER Act, H.R. 3905, the “Minnesota’s Economic Rights in the Superior National Forest Act" - 2017

This radical bill would require approval from elected Representatives in Congress for any federal proposal to withdraw land from mining, or establishment of national monuments in Minnesota. Additionally, this legislation would allow the renewal of mineral leases in the area and would ensure that future leases in the area remain valid and renewed.

The MINER Act, H.R. 3905 represents yet another direct attack on one of our nation’s bedrock conservation laws, and flatly ignores the overwhelming public support for protecting unique and sensitive federal lands and ocean areas through national monument designations.
