Intro To Kayak
The American Canoe Association program for Instructor certification in Kayak offers individuals the opportunity to become Instructors in Intro to Kayak, or as a way to develop skill on the path to more advanced certifications in River Kayak or Coastal Kayak.
Each level is more complex and includes a level of difficulty and skills proportionally more advanced. Instructors may teach preceding courses including Quickstart.
The Introduction to Kayak Instructor Certification
For Instructors who will teach on calm sheltered water in a light wind environment. Instructors are authorized to teach students fundamental skills including identifying hazards, basic concepts in craft handling and self- rescues in calm waters such as lakes or ponds.
The River Kayak Instructor Program
Been developed for those involved in teaching river skills, including among other things paddling technique, boat handling and the necessary skills for safe craft handling on rivers. These programs are designed for moving water and whitewater environments.
The Coastal Kayak Instructor Program
Developed for those involved in teaching sea kayak skills, boat handling and the necessary skills for safe crafting handling in the tidal areas or open ocean. These programs cover all paddling and navigation issues, including among other things tidal and current reading skills, craft handling for wind and surf areas and self rescue in open water.Every ACA certified Instructor, regardless of his/her craft, is expected to execute self rescues in a water level beyond where he/she may is authorized to take students.
