October 25, 2009 SEIC Meeting Update
During the Fall SEIC Meeting and Subsequent ACA Board of Directors Meetings, the following proposals were submitted, have been approved and all associated documentation on the website has been updated:
- Re-align the Coastal Kayaking Strokes and Maneuvers Refinement course into the Level 3: Coastal Kayaking Course Material. This allows the Strokes and Maneuvers Refinement course to be taught by Level 3: Coastal Kayaking instructors in the Coastal Kayaking course venue. This also completes the alignment of all skills associated with the Coastal Kayaking Level 3 Skills Assessment with the course material a Level 3: Coastal Kayaking Instructor is certified to teach. All L3: CK Instructors will need to demonstrate the ability to teach and model the new skills associated with this change at their next update. Current Level 3: Coastal Kayaking Instructors without the previous Strokes and Maneuvers Endorsement should not teach the Strokes and Maneuvers Refinement course until they have successfully completed their next update.
- Removal of the Paddle-float Rescue from the Level 1: Introduction to Kayaking Instructor Criteria. This change was requested and approved due to the fact the Level 1: Introduction to Kayaking course is conducted in close proximity to shore where more basic rescue self-rescue techniques can be utilized and the type of paddlecraft that can be used in a Level 1: Introduction to Kayaking / QuickStart or SmartStart Kayaking courses may not be suitable for teaching this rescue.
