Training to become an ACA-Certified Coastal Kayaking Instructor is an excellent way to formalize your own kayaking skills and gain the tools for effectively sharing kayaking with other paddlers.

Nate is excited to be partnering with Carl Ladd (ACA L4 ITE, Owner of Osprey Sea Kayak) to offer L3 and L4 Instructor Development Workshops (IDW) at Pinniped Kayak in the Mount Desert Island area.

In addition to addressing the core ACA criteria, we'll look at a variety of teaching/instructing/coaching concepts, and processes that are not traditionally part of ACA Instructor Development Workshops and put them into practice. Therefore, this IDW will also make for an informative update for current Instructors and Instructor Trainers.

These are two separate IDW's, L3 and L4 respectively; each with an independent lead IT. Therefore, content will be focused on the skills and knowledge required to instruct within the L3 or L4 venue, and to prepare you for an ICE. L3 and L4 groups will collaborate on some modules, and work independently for other on-water sessions, according to the specific requirements of each instructor level standard.

Candidates will leave with refined personal skills, an improved arsenal of instructional tools, and a personalized action plan to prepare for an Instructor Certification Exam (ICE) at a later date. (Candidates must pass a L3 or L4 skills assessment, respectively before the start of the IDW. One is offered by Pinniped Kayak on July 25th.)
