Come out for a day of river fun with the James River Association on Saturday April 20, 2013 @ the Jamestown Yacht Basin/ EcoDiscovery Park

2013 marks the second year for the James RiverFest and the third for the JRPC. The day's events will include a competitive paddle race, fun and educational activities for children, food, live music, a wide variety of vendors and environmental booths.

General admission to the festival is free.

The James RiverFest will kick off with the 3rd Annual James River Paddle Challenge at 9 AM, offering paddlers of all crafts and skill levels the choice of the 4-mile sprint course exploring up Powhatan Creek or the 9.5 mile enduro-paddle around historic Jamestown Island.
Highlights for the day:

River-related vendors display a variety of items, including: outdoor equipment, arts and crafts, food, merchandise, and children’s items. We will also have a variety of children’s fun and educational activities, as well as environmental booths.
James River Association Tent - JRA will have a tent highlighting our important work to protect the James River and to showcase our programs. Our Lower James Riverkeeper and our Education Staff will be present to provide hands-on activities for those that in attendance.

Eco-Discovery Park Plans will also be unveiled at this event and drawings, etc. will be on display throughout the day. Bikes and kayaks will be available for rent and the marina store open for business.

Live Music – Local musical groups will provide entertainment throughout the day.

Paddle Race – The Third Annual James River Paddle Challenge, a race around Jamestown Island for standup paddle boards, kayaks and canoes, will kick off at 9:00 a.m. and the awards presentation will be at 12:30 p.m.

Earth Day Tree Planting – At 2:00 p.m. we will have a ceremonial tree planting to honor Earth Day, as well as to showcase JRA’s Watershed Restoration Program. Our Watershed Restoration Program works with local landowners to plant native vegetation to serve as riparian buffers which helps to provide filtration for cleaner waterways.

Geocacheing – Geocache sites are located at the park and GPS units available for patrons to use.

Find more race information at After the paddle challenge, spend time with the family visiting educational, food, and vendor booths and trying out demonstrations of outdoor equipment from Appomattox River Company or try a SUP from Black Dog Paddle.

At the event, be sure to stop by the Eco Discovery Park tent and see plans for this great new center which will enable recreation and education on America’s Founding River. JRA will also have a tent to showcase our programs which will include hands on activities. All proceeds support JRA’s mission to protect and restore the James River watershed.
