This class is designed for people who have kayaking experience, but want to boost the efficiency and effectiveness of their paddling. It is geared toward ACA Level 2 competencies. We’ll be focusing on mastering control of your boat and on paddling safety. Strokes to be covered will depend on the group but will likely include refining of forward, reverse, and sweep strokes. We will move on to introduce additional draws, bow rudder and stern rudder. In addition to the “how to”, we’ll focus on why certain strokes have particular effects on the boat. We also put a lot of emphasis on using big muscles (torso, legs) for efficiency, instead of relying on just your arms. Additional skills that will be taught include bracing and performing assisted rescues.
