Bonnie Perry Paddling is pleased to offer an ACA Instructor Development Workshop (IDW) for candidates interested in working toward certification as sea kayak instructors. This IDW will be followed at a later date by an Instructor Certification Exam (ICE) which will qualify successful candidates to be American Canoe Association sea kayak instructors. This IDW is designed to prepare candidates for certification as American Canoe Association Level 3-4 (Basic Coastal Kayak or Open Water Coastal) Instructors. Candidates are welcome to use traditional (Greenland) and/or modern (Euro) paddles during the training and assessment. The focus of the IDW is to facilitate your growth as a coach and paddler by developing and honing your teaching and paddling skills. The IDW will: § Place you in the real-life situations a dynamic and engaged coach encounters, § Hone your observations skills, § Challenge you to create different ways to impart the particular concepts and skills that each of your student’s needs and then, § Offer you objective (video) and subjective (peers and coaches) feedback on your coaching effectiveness and style. At the end of this class you’ll have a personal plan for how to refine your skills. You’ll know what you do well, where you need some work and you’ll have many, many different ways for effectively conveying information to your students. In addition, you’ll have a clear idea of what will be required to successfully pass an Instructor Candidate Exam (ICE). The goal is to inspire, challenge and equip you to become an excellent sea kayak coach. Excellent coaches are great teachers and informed mentors. For more information contact through email:
