Adirondack Kayak Adventure series 2016

Want to improve your kayak skills? Always wanted to kayak camp but never knew how?

Interested in learning in the outdoor environment? We’ll be working from a base camp in the Fish Creek Ponds and upper Saranac Lake area where we will explore the local waters as we learn new skills whilst enjoying the flora and fauna surrounding us.

This is an ‘all-inclusive’ event with training, kayaks, paddles, buoyancy aids/life jackets, tent camping and meals provided. Participants are responsible for their own travel and kayak clothing, snacks, drinks/water and utensils/dish for meals. Participants are responsible for their own travel.


There will be opportunities through this program to gain kayak awards, wilderness first aid qualifications and participate in leave no trace workshops.



There will be four training sessions leading up to the adventure; venue(s) may change due to weather:

1.   June 26th, 10am-12noon, Intro to sea kayaking Pool session Maryvalle High school.

2. July 12th, 6pm-8pm, Gallagher Beach (south side/beach launch)- Kayak and safety rescue - we’ll review our rescue skills and learn how to look after each other and ourselves on the water.

3. August 28th, 9am-3pm, Buffalo River, Mutual Riverfront park launch- Strokes and Maneuvers refinement-journey up the Buffalo river as we put into practice our new skills.

4. September 10th, 10am-12noon, Sunset Bay Hanover launch- Essentials of kayak touring - how to load your boats, reviewing strokes, learning travelling with loaded kayaks and more


Adventure weekend, will run rain or shine

September 15th- travel day, dinner at camp

Sept 16th- Fish Creek ponds/Floodwood pond  

Sept 17th- Upper Saranac Lake/

Sept 18th- Saranac river

Sept 19th- breakfast at site and travel day
