About the IT's

Matt Kane - Instructor Trainer Candidate

Matt has been paddling for over twenty years and had been teaching for the past eight years. He owns and operates Prime Paddlesports in the lower Hudson Valley and operates the Hudson Valley Paddlesports Symposium, now in its third year.
Matt was introduced to water sports at a young age and spent six summers sailing on Shelter Island, NY in Gardiners Bay. Growing up on Long Island, NY he began as a recreational paddler and moved from inland lakes and rivers to the Long Island Sound and coastal environs of the Atlantic Ocean. After relocating to the Hudson Valley, Matt's interest in sea kayaking really developed when he became involved with an outfitter operation in his hometown of Cold Spring, NY. He took steps towards becoming an American Canoe Association Instructor while working as a hospitality professional in Manhattan. For seven years, Matt continued as a weekend warrior and worked with several tristate area outfitters as a guide and instructor where he found his passion was sharing and teaching. In 2014 Matt became a full-time outdoor educator with a focus on paddle sports and wilderness medicine.

Matt has served as Director-at-Large with the Hudson River Watertrail Association, and competed in the Mayor's Cup. He has paddled along the eastern seaboard, with many of the sports best trainers and educators. In 2015, his paddling took him across our northern border when he was invited to teach at the Bay of Fundy Sea Kayak Symposium. In 2014, Matt launched the Hudson Valley Paddlesport Symposium; which remains the tristate area's premier paddling event for beginner and intermediate paddlers. Most recently, Matt became a member of Team Dagger.
Matt is an American Canoe Association (ACA) L4 Open Water Instructor, A SOLO Wilderness EMT / Educator.
