Course Description Our four-day comprehensive workshop combines the ACA instructor development workshop (IDW) with the instructor certification exam (ICE) – a perfect course for experienced kayakers who are interested in advancing their skills to become an ACA-certified instructor. During this workshop, our experienced instructors will provide feedback on your paddling, teaching and group management skills. At the end of the workshop, you should be able to demonstrate proficiency in performing and teaching intermediate level kayak skills and rescues in moderate sea conditions, such as protected waters with winds up to 10 knots, waves up to one foot and currents up to one knot. This workshop includes classroom and on-water time. On the last day, the instructor will conduct a certification exam for each candidate. Participation does not guarantee certification.

L.L.Bean does not usually cancel events due to inclement weather. However, we reserve the right to cancel an event at any time due to severe weather, low enrollment or other concerns. If L.L.Bean cancels your event, you will receive a full refund for the cost of your reservation.

Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy

*Synthetic clothing dries quickly and is the best choice for outdoor pursuits. Please do not wear cotton clothing. When wet, cotton rapidly robs the heat from your body and takes a long time to dry. We also recommend you dress in multiple layers, allowing you more flexibility to comfortably respond to the weather conditions and your level of exertion. †Please call ahead if you plan to use your own equipment as it must pass inspection by L.L.Bean staff before use. If it's deemed unsuitable, we will provide you with the necessary equipment.
