Join Potomac Riverkeeper Network for this special RiverPalooza 2017 Women on the Water (WOW) Paddle Day to help us stand up for clean water and celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act! Women have always played a critical role as stewards of our water resources. The Waitaha people of New Zealand, a Matriarchal culture dating back over 4000 years, were known as the original “Water Bearers” ( which has become an international movement of women dedicated to improving access to clean water for millions of people. Clean water is critical to our survival and is an interest we all share. When we learn to respect and fall in love with water, we stop taking it for granted. When we begin to recognize how important water is to our families, our community and to our entire planet – we change our relationship to it and to each other. Come make a stand for clean water!

Enjoy a paddle with your Potomac Riverkeeper on this wide and lazy stretch of river which is part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail. This part of the Potomac River is 8 miles of placid, gently flowing currents from Edward’s Ferry all the way down to Seneca Creek Park at Riley’s Lock, making it the perfect stretch for even beginner paddlers. Paddlers will also enjoy a beautiful sunset from the river, one of the best times to see wildlife. Edwards Ferry has a large boat ramp that is a popular spot for smallmouth bass fishing, so feel free to bring a fishing pole (but be sure to have your license!).
