The vast majority of the youth we serve have never participated in a stewardship program or even been in a canoe. This program will expose at-risk youth to new outdoor activity while teaching them to respect the natural environment. Our trained instructors and volunteers will work with participating youth to ensure they take these lessons home with them and pass them on to friends and family throughout the inner-city.

We are going to continue to do our Busse Lake Cleanup project. Busse Lake is on a local Cook County Forest Preserve in Elk Grove Village, IL. The project will engage 70 youth and more than 20 trained instructors and volunteers. Youth will participate in one of seven cleanup events at the start of the canoe season in May and June of 2014. Before stewardship work begins, trained instructors will lead participating youth through the ACA QuickStart program.
