Sugar Land, Texas to Host 2020 ACA Marathon National Championships
The Sugar Land Kayak Club is pleased to announce that Sugar Land, Texas will host the 2020 ACA Marathon National Championships. This event doubles as the annual Marathon Team Trials: the selection race that determines which athletes will represent the USA in the 2020 Marathon World Championships, to be held in September in Norway.
The National Championship / Marathon Trials will be held on Brooks Lake on May 9-10, 2020. The course will consist of 6-8 laps (depending on classification) of approximately 3.2 kilometers each, with a mandatory portage on all but the first lap.
Brooks Lake offers unprecedented convenience for out-of-state competitors. There are two hotels located on the lake, directly adjacent to the start/finish line. The event site is also in the proximity of Lake Pointe Town Center, which features with dozens of shops and restaurants, and is connected to hotels via a pedestrian bridge.
Brooks Lake is approximately one-mile in length, 60-meters wide at the front & back buoy turns, 120-meters across in the center, and is 10-feet deep end to end. This smaller setting offers spectators a chance to witness a majority of the race from one location.
