ACA Membership Types

The following membership options and benefits are available.

Individuals

 

After choosing Individual as your ACA membership type, you will then be prompted to choose what style of membership.  There is a tiered structure with corresponding benefits.  

 

If you are also a member of a Paddle America Club(PAC), you will be prompted to select the name of your club from a drop down list (for club roster purposes).  If you are not a member of a PAC, or if your Club does not show up on the list, you should choose 'ACA Member (No Club Affiliation)' from the drop down list during the registration process. 

 

There is also an annual, auto-renewal option for an Individual membership.

 

Competition Individuals

     

This $25 membership is for anyone who would like to compete or race in one or more paddlesport disciplines.

 

For athletes who would like to compete at the National or International level for Olympic, Paralympic or International Canoe Federation (ICF) disciplines (including Team Trials, Nationals, and International Competitions) there is an additional Competition License of $45.  The $45 Competition License also applies to individuals who are ICF certified judges, officials and coaches.

During the join/renew process Competition Individual members are able to:

  • select their primary competitive discipline (for voting purposes)
    • Slalom - Olympic
    • Sprint - Olympic
    • Paracanoe - Paralympic
    • Wildwater - ICF
    • Marathon - ICF 
    • Canoe Polo - ICF
    • Dragon Boat - ICF
    • Freestyle (Whitewater) - ICF
    • Ocean Racing (Surfski) - ICF
    • Outrigger
    • Canoe Sailing
    • Canoe Poling
    • Freestyle (Flatwater)
    • Whitewater Open Canoe Downriver
    • Open Canoe Slalom
    • Stand Up Paddleboarding
    • Collegiate
  • select secondary competitive discipline(s) (if applicable)
  • select from the following classifications:
    • Athlete
    • Family / Friend
    • Club Administrator
    • Coach
    • Volunteer
    • Race Organizer
    • Official / Judge
  • electronically sign the yearly Athlete Code of Conduct form
  • electronically sign the yearly ACA waiver if they are a member of a Paddle America Club (PAC)
  • self verify that they are either currently in possession of, or within 5 days of joining/renewing, have the requisite certificates from the U.S. Center for SafeSport

Do I have to be a Competition Individual Member to Race at my local race?

No, as long as you are an ACA Individual member or an ACA Event member, you can participate in your local race.  However, if you would like to race regularly, or at a team trials, nationals, or internationally, then you need to be a Competition Individual member. 

  • Competition Individual - $25
  • Competition License - $45

 

***A percentage of each of these Competition membership dues will be dedicated for the use of the competitive discipline that is selected. Aka, the ACA will give funds directly back to the individual competitive disciplines!

   

 

Clubs and Organizations

     The following membership options are available if you choose this membership type.

Affiliate
This membership type is for all organizations and festivals, including retailers and manufacturers, who wish to affiliate with the ACA.  There is a tiered structure with corresponding benefits:


Paddle America Club (PAC)

This is the nation's premier status for paddling clubs.  This membership type is for the club.  The club President or their designee (the primary club contact person) should fill out the registration form to join as a new PAC or renew their club's dues.  PAC status also allows the club to use ACA insurance for a range of events. Outfitter, Livery & Guide

This membership type is designed exclusively for outfitters, liveries and guides (OLG).  One of the many benefits of this membership type is that by meeting certain criteria, OLG members will be eligible for discounted pricing on various insurance policies.  From basic protection to complex and unique risks, the ACA endorsed insurance program is proud to offer the protection outfitters, liveries and guides need.  Learn more about the ACA's OLG Program.

 


Pro School

This membership type is for organizations centered around education and instruction. They must have continually operated as a paddlesports school for a minimum of 4 consecutive years, comply with paddlesports best practices, have the appropriate ACA Instructor certifications for lead staff, and offer a discount to ACA members on certain programs. Instructor
If you are interested in becoming a certified ACA Instructor, please choose the Individual membership type ($25).  Upon successful completion of your Instructor Certification Workshop (ICW), the National Office will then transition your currently selected membership type to the Instructor membership type.  Upon becoming certified as an ACA Instructor, there is an additional Safety Education & Instruction Council (SEIC) dues payment of $35. ACA Mission

Founded in 1880, The American Canoe Association (ACA) is a national nonprofit organization serving the broader paddling public by providing education related to all aspects of paddling; stewardship support to help protect paddling environments; and sanctioning of programs and events to promote paddlesport competition, exploration and recreation.
