Department: Conservation, Stewardship & Public Policy
Title: Public Policy Chief

The ACA's new Public Policy Chief starts on July 5, 2017.

Brett Mayer joined the ACA staff in the summer of 2017 as the new Public Policy Chief. Brett has worked in the world of environmental and adventure education for over fourteen years and brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to the position.

Under Mayer’s leadership, the ACA looks forward to enhancing communications with ACA members on a wide range of local, regional, and national policy issues.

Brett attended the University of Virginia where he majored in Environmental Studies, and completed a Master’s degree in Adventure Education at Prescott College in Arizona where he wrote a thesis on how participation motivation changes in whitewater kayakers over time.

Mayer also serves as an ambassador for Dagger Kayaks. He resides near Great Falls of the Potomac River with his wife Kerry, daughter Aoife, and son Stokes.

“The ACA serves the wider paddling community by representing their interests on a range of policy issues from river access, public lands protections, and boater safety. I look forward to continuing this important work by invigorating our efforts to communicate progress with our members, and by providing more opportunities for members to become engaged in the process.” - Brett
