Shaun Caven

Department: Competition
Title: Paracanoe High Performance Manager/Coach

Shaun served as the Scottish National Coach from 1997 to 2001. He coached the British Junior Team from 2001 to 2005 in Nottingham England, before accepting a position coaching the British Senior Team in London. During this time he worked with and coached athletes at every level, from Junior National Champions to Olympic Medalists. Shaun completed his NLP Sport Practitioner as part of UK Sport’s commitment to developing elite coaches in 2005 whilst he was Head Coach of the British Canoe Union. During his tenure as British National Coach, GB canoeing won its first gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

From 2009-2016, Shaun was the Director and Head Coach of the OK City Boathouse Foundation to develop a canoe/kayak program that will take athletes – whether they are new to the sport or seasoned veterans – to the next level.

Since arriving in the US, Caven has coached at national camps to prepare athletes for international competition. He was selected to coach at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2009 to 2013 World Championships.

In addition, he was the U.S. Coach at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio.

Shaun’s drive is ‘to coach and help athletes win Medals.’

Founded in 1880, The American Canoe Association (ACA) is a national nonprofit organization serving the broader paddling public by providing education related to all aspects of paddling; stewardship support to help protect paddling environments; and sanctioning of programs and events to promote paddlesport competition, exploration and recreation.
