The Adaptive Paddling Workshop will take place as a separate - post conference workshop beginning on the last day of the National Paddlesports Conference and SUP Summit in Charleston, SC. These workshops are designed to provide instructors, outfitters, recreation program providers, and rehabilitation professionals with the information they need to integrate paddlers with disabilities into their programs. The workshop includes how to compensate for a paddlers loss of function due to disability, how to adapt equipment and instruction and how to focus on the paddlers ability. This course includes a classroom and hands on learning, and a pool session. All completing this workshop receive a certificate of completion. ACA certified paddling instructors receive the Adaptive Paddling Endorsement and also ACA Update credit applied to their paddling instructor certification - upon completion of this 2-day workshop. This is a stand alone course and National Paddlesports Conference or SUP Summit registration is not included in the fee. In addition, ACA Membership is required for this course, but is not included in the above fee. "Individuals of
all ages with physical disabilities are invited to attend the second day of the
workshop (November 5, 2012) for FREE as student participants. Student
participants will have the opportunity to help adapt canoes, kayaks, SUP’s or
other paddle craft to fit their unique needs and circumstances. Students will also have a chance to use, experiment with,
and learn from experts about specialized paddlesport adaptive gear. Professional paddlesport instructors will then teach basic
techniques and skills in the safety and comfort of a swimming pool.
