Venue: Along the shore of Lake Superior, Duluth’s dramatic hillside rises 900 feet in elevation. Our active harbor, where 1000-foot ships frequently arrive and depart, provides excellent navigation practice. Opportunities for wind, wave, and surf conditions on the big lake are a short paddle or drive from our Aquatics Center. Join us on the water in Outside Magazine’s #1 Outdoor City (2014) for a day of paddling and skills assessment.

What: This ACA Assessment Course is designed to evaluate a participant’s ability to perform Level 3 Coastal Kayak Instructor skills in 10-15 knot winds, 1-2 foot waves or surf, within 1.5 nautical miles from shore, along with demonstrating an appropriate level of knowledge. Participants will receive documentation of having achieved a certain level of paddling ability.

Price:

  • $150 Skills Assessment Only, OR
  • $750 L3 Skills Assessment plus ICW

Pre-requisite: Participants must be a member of the ACA and have participated in a minimum of three, full day journeys e.g. longer than 8 nautical miles.
