This is a real-life context for trip leading skills; long before the trip begins, you’ll have homework. You’ll begin trip planning over charts & tide tables, assess group parameters, plan menus and analyze weather. Each participant makes up a part of the whole by navigating for a day, cooking for a day, managing people and gear on water all while keeping abreast of tides and conditions. That’s what leaders do and there’s nothing going to reinforce that better and more solidly than the backcountry.
